Known for extended bouts of fasting, beloved Zimbabwean isolationist Mamoondinia Harkundoo Wah(87) committed ritual suicide on November 7, 2007 in his home in Harare, Zimbabwe. His sons Glongtok Mamoondinia Harkundoo Wah and Tajm’tal Harkundoo Wah were present for the ceremony and assisted their father in the noble right of passage.
After the ceremony, Tajm’tal told reporters, “This was my father’s dream, to show the world that isolationist living is a God-given right and should be an accepted practice in Zimbabwe. Even though I have not seen him for over 30 years, I know he was living the life he was meant to live.”
Tajm’tal also told reporters that he was surprised to hear from his father after three decades. “I received a letter from my father that said he wanted to commit the time honored tradition of Zim P’tul. At first I thought it was a joke from my other brother, Glongtok, but the letter contained a small tuff of goat’s hair, which is our family’s insignia, so I knew it must be true.
Harkundoo Wah will be buried next to his wife in Harare.

I was looking for this article because it was on Wikipedia yesterday and then it disappeared. Now it is back again. My grandfather used to talk about Mamoondinia and say he was a “Zun Daan” (a crazy man) but it was all harmless fun. Man, I didn’t even know he was still alive. But I haven’t been back in Harare for years.
I am really sad to hear about this he was an inspiration to me in some of my difficult times. i know it was his right so i will have to accept it.
